The IndianaMap is a single statewide map for Indiana. It includes the information people need most in a format that is accessible to both expert GIS users and the general public. IGIC is working with several partners to help make the IndianaMap vision a reality. As shown above, framework and other data flow from federal, state, regional, and local sources. Those data are extracted, transformed, and loaded (ETL) as necessary to feed into the IndianaMap. Those publicly available data are available for use in applications that serve our most pressing issues in economic development, agriculture, taxation, public safety, and much more.
Much of the IndianaMap is already complete, with further development and maintenance ongoing. Local data integration through the ETL process is currently under development and testing.
This "blueprint" is a poster-sized diagram showing the "IndianaMap is Infrastructure". If you would like to print or plot your own, it is available from IGIC as an Adobe .pdf document that can be plotted at 36"x54" or you can resize to fit smaller paper.

The Indiana Geographic Information Council is seeking participants for an Address Integration Pilot Project. IGIC has received funding to work with 10 or more counties to test the IndianaMap Data Integration Infrastructure currently under development (download the IndianaMap Blueprint for more information). Through the pilot project, participant's point address data will be integrated into a derived "statewide" data set. The derived data set will not contain personal information associated with the address points (names or phone numbers). The derived dataset will be part of the IndianaMap Framework Data and be publicly available.
If your county and/or city would like to be considered for participation, please complete the following NO LATER THAN MARCH 21, 2008.

Please respond by March 21, 2008 - MAKE SURE YOUR VOICE IS HEARD!!! Water Stakeholder Survey
Dear Regional and Local GIS Contacts:
Re: Indiana Hydrologic Framework Data
The Indiana Geographic Information Council’s (IGIC) Waters Framework Dataset Workgroup has been convened to discuss the selection and long–term maintenance of the most appropriate GIS layer to represent the surface water bodies of Indiana. Recently, the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) updated the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) to 1:24,000 scale nation–wide. The NHD is a unified layer with enough detail to include intermittent headwater delineations as well as key reference data for analyses. It is statewide and supports multi–scale users from federal, state, county, local and private entities. For these reasons the workgroup is considering it to be the most appropriate hydrography GIS layer for state. For more information on the NHD, please visit the USGS NHD website, http://nhd.usgs.gov/.
In an effort to ensure the appropriateness of this dataset for all potential users, we are contacting you about your current needs relating to spatial display and analytical evaluation of surface water in your program(s). We have compiled a short on-line survey to help us determine the extent of your hydrographic needs and the various uses that you have or will need in the future. Please take a few minutes to review and complete the survey at: http://www.in.gov/surveytool/public/survey.php?name=NhdStakeholderSurvey.
Thank you for your help. Your input is extremely valuable to us. It will help us determine the best path for maintaining the NHD for all Indiana GIS users and providing information on its value.
Sincerely,
Mike Martin and Jill Saligoe-Simmel, co-chairs
