The Polis Center at IUPUI is offering two SAVI classes scheduled over the next few weeks.

SAVI Level 1: How to Use the SAVI Website

SAVI Level 1 "How to Use the SAVI Website" is scheduled for Thursday July 19th 8:30am -noon. The class will be held at The Polis Center.

Prerequisites: None

This is a fast-paced overview of SAVI's contents and tools. It will describe the data available in SAVI and how to use the search tools in SAVI to find the data you need. It will provide step-by-step instructions on how to use the tools that SAVI-Interactive provides for exploring communities, including community profiles, the "build your own custom community tool," and interactive maps, charts, and tables. This module also explores potential uses of SAVI, including examples of how SAVI is being used by organizations in Central Indiana. This course is required for all courses in Level 2 and above.

SAVI Level 3: Basic Analysis Techniques

SAVI Level 3 - "Basic Analysis Techniques" is scheduled for Monday July 23rd 1:30pm - 4:00pm. The class will be held at The Polis Center.

Prerequisite: SAVI Level 1

This course introduces participants to basic concepts and considerations when analyzing data, including understanding data limitations, appropriate uses of data, and making meaning out of data. You will learn how to interpret maps and charts, how to select the appropriate parameters of your data, and how to analyze change over time. This workshop provides an important foundation in using and understanding data that is necessary for the level 4 workshops.

The class will be taught by Tammy Butler Robinson, currently one of the owners and managing principals of Engaging Solutions, LLC. Tammy has a strong background in public policy and data collection and analysis, expertise in public finance and management, and a deep commitment to improving communities. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree from Ball State University as a fellow of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
